Women ‘permanently injured’ following metal strike from rollercoaster

A 45-year-old-woman has filed a lawsuit against Cedar Point after being struck by a piece of metal while waiting in line for a ride.

A 45-year-old-woman has filed a lawsuit against Cedar Point after being struck by a piece of metal while waiting in line for a ride.

Rachel Hawes was injured in 2021 when a piece of metal flew off of Top Thrill Dragster, striking her and causing severe injuries, including a fractured skull.

The piece of metal was discovered to have been a proximity plate, which was loosely fastened to one of the rollercoaster’s ride cars.

The lawsuit alleges that Cedar Point was negligent for failing to notice the bolts were loose, as well as failing to provide guests adequate protection in the waiting area.

According to the filing, Hawes suffered “permanent” injuries from the incident and will need “assistance with activities of daily living for the remainder of her life”.
