Qatar continues to make preparation for an influx of visitors in November, as the football’s Fifa World Cup approaches.
As part of its preparations, the country is introducing a raft of cultural initiatives and major museum developments designed to boost the small oil-rich state’s soft power status.
Among them is the Art Mill - a modern and contemporary art venue planned for Doha. Housed inside an old flour mill, the venue won’t open until 2030, however, a preview exhibition called Art Mill Museum 2030 is due to open at two locations in the city.
Qatar has also announced that more than 40 new and commissioned public works will go on show in Doha as part of the World Cup celebrations in a variety of public spaces, including the stadiums set to host the tournament’s matches.
The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha is also getting an overhaul, with the institution set to be reconfigured with “new thematic interpretations”.
