The city of Venice, famous for its World Heritage-protected canals, bridges and water taxis, is running dry after weeks of dry weather.
Usually more concerned with flooding, the drought has cut off waterways, with fears that ambulances and water taxis will not be able to operate as usual.
Inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1987, the city was founded in the 5th century and spread over 118 small islands. Venice became a major maritime power in the 10th century.
