The UK’s Chester Zoo has been awarded £318,323 (US$405,000, €370,000) by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) that will be used to help create and restore vital habitats to support local wildlife.

The UK’s Chester Zoo has been awarded £318,323 (US$405,000, €370,000) by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) that will be used to help create and restore vital habitats to support local wildlife.
The money will also be used to fund Networks for Nature, a major project that will provide comprehensive conservation skills training and see the establishment of a well-being and accessibility programme that will engage young people and create volunteering opportunities, designed so that both wildlife and the local community can thrive.
“Nature is in need of urgent help and our new Networks for Nature project will create a thriving, better connected, wildlife-rich landscape across northwest Cheshire, benefitting both nature and the surrounding communities,” said Hannah Brooks, community engagement manager at Chester Zoo.
Helen Featherstone, director of England North at NLHF, said: “It is vital that we value, rebuild and protect our natural heritage so it is sustained for the future, and this project has that at its core.”
