Tokyo’s Hanayashiki theme park is set to introduce an array of new additions, with the 170-year-old theme park about to launch a number of new attractions and a new themed zone later this month

Tokyo’s 170-year-old Hanayashiki theme park has a number of new attractions about to open, including an entirely new themed area and a retheming of the historic park’s haunted house zone.
Among the additions, digital art studio Naked Inc is creating an installation called “Naked Hanakeshiki," or “Naked Flower Scenery.” Using projection mapping, the exhibition goes back to the park’s roots - it was first built inside a flower garden - with its name translating to Flower Mansion.
Also looking at the park’s historical roots are two new walk-through zones - Gorieki Yokocho and Jiku Kaidan - which are themed with aesthetics from a retro shopping street and mansion.
An exhibition called Panorama Time Travel will also be on display, with the area tracing the past of the Asakusa neighbourhood the park is located in, with multi-screen images showing the scenery of the townscape.
New dining options are also included, with the Ohanami Chashitsu (Flower-viewing Teahouse) offering a variety of dishes both sweet and savoury.
The park’s haunted house has undergone a major renovation and retheming, with a new backstory based on the Four Great Kaidan of Edo - traditional horror stories set in old Tokyo. The walkthrough attraction, which stretches 74m (243ft), will see visitors face ‘Kasenegafuchi, Botan-doro’ (The Peony Lantern), ‘Yotsuya Kaidan’ (The Yotsuya Ghost Story), and ‘Bancho Sarayashiki’ (The Bancho Dish Mansion). These classic Japanese tales follow themes of jealousy, murder and vengeance.
The haunted house also features the new Mysterious Scoop Cameraman AR game. In the game, players will use a special device to search for goulish monsters known as Yokai, where they will then capture photographs of them.
The reimagined haunted house and new zone will open to the public on July 20.
