Visitors to Shanghai Disney were shut inside the park, with people not allowed to leave the popular theme park until they were able to show a negative Covid test.
A result of China’s incredibly strict zero-Covid policy, 10 locally transmitted cases over a weekend was enough to send the park into its sudden mandated Covid response.
Videos posted on the Chinese social media site Weibo showed people rushing to the park's gates following the announcement but finding them already locked.
Posting through WeChat, the Shanghai government said the park was barring people from entering and that those inside could only leave once they had returned a negative test result.
No date has been given for when the park will reopen, though Shanghai Disney has said that existing tickets will be valid for six months and refunds will be given.
The good news for visitors was that rides continued to operate for those trapped inside during testing.
