Scotland’s Highland Wildlife Park joins WAZA

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) Highland Wildlife Park has announced that it has joined the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) Highland Wildlife Park has announced that it has joined the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).

Reflecting the organisation’s dedication to high standards of animal welfare, wildlife conservation and inspiring people to protect, value and love nature, the move sees the animal attraction join WAZA alongside more than 250 existing zoos and aquariums.

“We are thrilled that Highland Wildlife Park is now a member of WAZA,” said David Field, RZSS chief executive. “Highland Wildlife Park is at the heart of species conservation action in Scotland. The opening of the nearly £8m Scotland’s Wildlife Discovery Centre later this year will bring to life the challenges facing wildlife in Scotland and around the world.”

WAZA's CEO, Dr Martín Zordan added: “We are very pleased to welcome Highland Wildlife Park as a WAZA member. The institution has played a crucial role in the recovery of wildcats and three native invertebrate species, and I am confident that our community will have tremendous opportunities to learn from their impactful work.”

Highland Wildlife Park is also a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA).
