Merlin Entertainments has named Paul Moreton as its new chief development officer, effective from January 1, 2023.
Moreton will replace outgoing CDO Mark ‘Fish’ Fisher, who will retire at the end of the year after 27 years at the company.
Having begun his career at Merlin in 1991 with a role at Alton Towers, Moreton has held several high-profile roles with the company including director of marketing and international brand development at Madame Tussauds and head of marketing and PR at the Coca-Cola London Eye.
From 2004 to 2011, he worked at UKTV as a general manager for several of the company’s channels, including Gold, Watch and Alibi. In 2012, he returned to Merlin as the group creative and new brands director, a role he held for 11 years before his promotion to CDO.
In his new role, he will be responsible for creating, producing and delivering compelling and innovative attractions and experiences.
“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to lead Merlin Magic Making where our focus is on dreaming big ideas and bringing those dreams to life,” said Moreton.
“The opportunity to work with an inspiring group of the most talented, creative people in the world is what makes Merlin Entertainments such a special and unique place.
“As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I’m excited to continue to be a role model and champion of diversity and inclusion – both in Merlin and the wider industry. I know I’m part of a Merlin team that truly values people, talent, ideas, creativity and teamwork.”
