Norwegian Cruise Line has announced plans to “sail into the Metaverse” with the launch of its own NFT collection.
The first of the NFTs will go on sale April 13, with the six pieces by Italian artist Manuel Di Rita to be auctioned off at US$2,500 each. Remaining NFTs will be sold for prices starting at US$250. Di Rita, also known as Peeta, previously designed the hull art on the record-breaking Norwegian Prima and her sister vessel Norwegian Viva.
In addition to purchasing the NFT, the winner of the auction will also be awarded a balcony stateroom on one of Norwegian Prima’s inaugural US voyages, setting sail from NCL’s PortMiami terminal.
“Peeta is a talented artist who has brought the magic and beauty of the ocean to our ships,” said NCL President and CEO Harry Sommer. “We’re happy to share this with our guests and to donate the proceeds of this new venture to Teach For America, an organisation and a cause very near and dear to our hearts.”
