Gardaland in Italy has welcomed its latest attraction following the launch of its new Wolf Legend drop tower ride.

Drawing inspiration from the giant 16m (52ft) wolf head, whose jaws surround the drop tower, the ride “summons visitors to perform a daring ritual” by throwing themselves into the jaws of the stone animal to break the curse that imprisons it.

Riders board a 16-seat gondola and ascend the tower, which features glowing symbols and other lighting effects. After reaching the 25m (82ft) peak of the SBF Visa Group manufactured tower, they free fall into the jaws of the wolf, passing through a cloud of smoke. Through the ride, guests will climb up and down several times, and repeatedly rotate around the tower.

The attraction is similar in design to Chessington’s Croc Drop. The Chessington version opened in April 2021 and features a plummet into the mouth of a giant crocodile. Both attractions are operated by Merlin Entertainments.

“With this attraction, we want to involve a very wide audience, from families with children to groups of friends. The goal is to win everyone over with unique experiences,” said Sabrina de Carvalho, divisional director at Gardaland. “We are confident it will provide a magical and exclusive experience for our guests.”

Gardaland is making significant investments in its 2024 season, with around €14m being spent. In addition to the multi-million Wolf Legend addition, this also includes shows, and maintenance across the wider resort, including three hotels and the Sea Life attraction.
