M.A.D Models creates scaled version of Emerald Park’s upcoming €22m Tír na nÓg expansion

M.A.D Models - a part of the Scruffy Dog Creative Group - has been commissioned by Ireland’s Emerald Park to create a scale model of the theme park and zoo’s upcoming 26,000sq m (283,000sq ft) expansion.

M.A.D Models - a part of the Scruffy Dog Creative Group - has been commissioned by Ireland’s Emerald Park to create a scale model of the theme park and zoo’s upcoming 26,000sq m (283,000sq ft) expansion.

Two new rollercoasters will feature in the €22m investment, dubbed Tír na nÓg, with M.A.D. models bringing the vision to life ahead of its development.

While most elements were rendered digitally, the rollercoaster tracks required manual craftsmanship, with the team at M.A.D Models using wire to replicate the design of the intertwining steel rollercoasters. Careful applications of grass and trees were added to the landscaped areas, with the result being a lifelike representation of the future addition to the park.

The model has been placed in the park’s admissions building, where it will act as an exhibition offering guests an advanced look at the future expansion.

“This has been such a great project for our team,” said. “It was exciting for us to use such a range of techniques - especially doing so much by hand - but we’re really happy with the final product and makes for a really evocative display piece.”

Construction of the new land started at the start of August 2022. The land is scheduled to open next year.
