Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has named Kathayoon Khalil as its new vice president and director of conservation programs for the Zoo and The Wilds.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has named Kathayoon Khalil as its new vice president and director of conservation programs for the Zoo and The Wilds.
Khalil, with over 20 years of experience in environmental education and conservation, will lead conservation projects aimed at fostering partnerships and advancing both local and global conservation efforts.
“Dr. Khalil brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a track record of impactful conservation work,” said Jan Ramer, senior vice president of animal care and conservation. “Her guidance will undoubtedly strengthen our ability to connect people with nature and inspire actionable conservation efforts to make a difference.”
Khalil previously served as associate vice president at the New England Aquarium and has held key positions at the Oregon Zoo and Canopy Strategic Partners. With a Ph.D. from Stanford University, she is committed to integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into conservation efforts. Khalil expressed excitement about continuing the zoo’s legacy in wildlife protection, saying, "I look forward to advancing innovative conservation initiatives."
