Two Just Stop Oil protesters have vandalised the historic Stonehenge, covering the ancient monument in orange powder paint.
Occurring the day before the Summer Solstice, which celebrates the day of the year with the longest period of sunlight, the two supporters began spraying the iconic rocks at the World Heritage site near Salisbury in the UK.
Named as Niamh Lynch, a 21-year-old student from Oxford, and Rajan Naidu, a 73-year-old from Birmingham, the protesters were arrested on suspicion of damaging the ancient monument.
In a statement, Just Stop Oil said the orange powder paint was cornflour and thay it would “wash away with rain”.
A spokeswoman for English Heritage said the incident was “extremely upsetting” and confirmed the site remains open to the public.
