The original owners of a 50-year-old theme park in Lubbock, Texas, US, have announced that the park will not reopen following the collapse of a sale.
The Dean Family had originally found investors to purchase the attraction, however those investors have reportedly backed out of the deal.
“It is with a broken heart that we must announce that Joyland Amusement Park will not be reopening after all,” said a statement from the family.
“The local group of investors that originally agreed to purchase the business have backed out of the sale. Liquidation of the park will follow.
“We would like to sincerely thank the people of Lubbock and the surrounding area for their support and all the great memories we have shared over the past 50 years.”
The proposed buyers also issued a statement, blaming “the inability to obtain specialised insurance, vandalism during the offseason, dwindling experienced carryover staff, the fast-approaching spring operating season - and many other factors” on the decision to pull out of the deal.
