After nearly a year without a permanent leader, Clearwater Marine Aquarium has named former Georgia Aquarium president Joe Handy its new CEO.
Helping launch Georgia Aquarium in 2005 as its director of visitor services and serving as its president from 2017 to 2020, Handy most recently held the role of president and CEO of the National Black MBA Association.
Taking up his new role on October 3, Handy said that a “sense of pulling and necessity to serve the community” led him to take up the position.
“That same passion, to serve, is what excites me about the CEO role with Clearwater Marine Aquarium,” he said.
“It has such a rich history with not only the Tampa Bay community, but with the military, those with special needs who are inspired by the rescued animals at CMA, and also the community of biologists and researchers who dedicate their lives to saving and protecting marine life.”
