With huge floods hitting northern Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region in May, the country’s museums are playing their part in helping recovery, raising prices by €1 as part of a wider €2bn aid package.
Funds raised from the price increase will go towards repairs needed for cultural institutions, many of which were damaged by the floods.
The increase was announced by Italian culture minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, with the scheme running at state-run museums from June 15 through September 15.
The floods have damaged at least 75 historic buildings, six archaeological sites, 12 libraries and archives. At least 13 people died, while thousands were evacuated during the floods - the worst to hit the region in a century.
