Tourism authorities are seeking new ideas to boost the area around Hadrian’s Wall.
The English World Heritage Site, built during Roman times, runs a total of 73 miles (117.5 kilometres), and originally marked the boundary between Roman Britannia and unconquered Caledonia to the north.
A shortlist for ideas to boost visitation to the wall is part of the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal - a scheme aiming to bring £450m into border areas.
Partners in the scheme are now inviting expressions of interest for a £9m project, with a shortlist to be drawn up on September 2.
The proposals say authorities, should have the potential to “significantly add to or improve the overall visitor offer of Hadrian's Wall as a destination and will attract new visitor markets and audiences into the area”.
