Disney’s Haunted Mansion dark ride is one of the operator’s most popular attractions, with versions in Disneyland, Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland. Now, the Haunted Mansion gets a new outlet as it heads towards cinema screens for a theatrical release this week.
Releasing in theatres on July 28 and rated “PG-13” for “thematic elements and scary action”, Haunted Mansion has an all-star lineup featuring the likes of Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto, with LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish also in starring roles.
In the film, a woman and her son enlist a crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters. The dark ride attraction, which launched in 1969, sees theme park guests go inside a spooky and creepy manor that has a wide array of supernatural frights.
The attraction also inspired a 2003 version of the film, which was not favourably rated, scoring 14% on Rotten Tomatoes and an average rating of 4.2 from viewers.
