The Ministry of Tourism for the Dominican Republic has launched an immersive pop-up experience in New York City’s Times Square.
Designed to promote tourism to the country, the visitor attraction is set inside a glass dome and showcases the Dominican Republic’s cultural heritage with interactive displays, engaging exhibits, dance and music performances and authentic cuisine.
The experience opened on December 8th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by David Collado, the Dominican Republic’s minister of Tourism, as well as several local officials. The pop-up installation, say the organisers, celebrates the “deep cultural ties” between New York City and the Dominican Republic.
“With this activation, we want everyone in Times Square to feel the joy, authenticity, and cultural richness of the Dominican Republic,” said Collado.
“This is more than just a tourism initiative; it is a celebration of the strong ties between our countries and an invitation to discover the beauty and warmth of our home.”
In 2023, the Dominican Republic received a record 10.3 million tourists, with New Yorkers accounting for 1.3 million of these visitors and 9% of all international arrivals. Since then, tourism from New York has increased by 5%, with the US, and New York specifically, representing a crucial market for the Dominican Republic’s economy.
Located in Duffy Square, between 45th and 46th Streets, the Dome is open from 9:00am - 9:00pm and runs until December 15.
