Disney’s board is focusing its CEO search on four of the company’s divisional heads in the search for an eventual successor to the company’s current leader, Bob Iger.
According to Bloomberg, TV chief Dana Walden, ESPN’s Jimmy Pitaro, theme-parks boss Josh D’Amaro and Alan Bergman, who heads the film business are being eyed for the top job, with Disney to possibly appoint a chief operating officer or president to serve for a time ahead of him permanently stepping down.
Iger’s current Disney contract runs through to 2026 with no successor expected to be announced before the end of this year. The Disney chief rejoined the company in November last year after taking over from Bob Chapek, who left the company after less than three years in the role.
Following his return, Iger has been working hard to boost profitability from Disney’s streaming initiatives, including Disney+. In an effort to save US$5.5bn (€5bn, £4.3bn), the company recently shed 7,000 jobs. Iger has also been working to give more power to the leaders of Disney’s creative divisions, including Imagineering.
