Part of the Qetaifan Island North entertainment destination, new imagery has shown the latest update for Qatar’s upcoming US$270m (€245.7m, £206.2m) Aquatar Waterpark.
Scheduled to open ahead of the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup, the under-construction waterpark will have as its centrepiece the 85-metre high (279 foot) Icon Tower, which will feature the tallest water slide in the world and the largest number of rides on a single structure.
“The Icon Tower features 12 rides on six levels, two hanging pools on the second and fourth floors. The ride takes around 40 seconds from the top to the bottom. Also, those who are brave to reach the top viewing deck can enjoy a view of Doha’s skyline,” Mustafa Al Cherkawi, construction engineer at Qetaifan Projects, said to press during a media tour.
“What’s unique about this waterpark, is you can pay a certain amount of money, and enjoy all the rides and spend the rest of the day on the beach.”
Sarner and WTI have played a part in the waterpark’s design. Suppliers include Intamin, Interlink, Severn Lamb and WhiteWater.
