Chester Zoo has announced the closure of its aquarium facility, an attraction that has been in operation for more than 70 years.
Opened in 1952, the aquarium at Chester Zoo currently houses sea creatures including seahorses, anemones and clownfish. The aquarium also grows its own corals.
As announced by the zoo, the aquarium will close its doors in 2026.
“With such advancements in building methods, technology and requirements for modern zoos, our expert team of structural engineers agree that from 2026 our aquatic species in the aquarium will be finding new habitats to flourish in, under the care of our dedicated aquatic team,” said a statement.
