Bordeaux’s mayor is the latest to call for a ban on cruise ships to a major city, with Pierre Hurmic saying they spoil the “beauty” of the location.

Following the examples of locations such as Venice and Amsterdam, the French city’s mayor is after a full ban on cruise ships to the city, even though it only accepts 40 ships per year currently.

An alternative spot for cruise vessels to dock has been proposed, with ships outside the city centre and its main attractions. Under the proposal, a river shuttle would ferry passengers back and forth to the city centre.
