Artists from across the world are set to travel to the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius later this month as they display their illumination projects for the sixth annual Vilnius Light Festival.
With around 200,000 people expected to enjoy the festivities, the programme is made of two parts - curator-selected installations and voluntary initiatives by culture, arts, science, education, and business organisations.
Among this year’s offerings, Lithuanian multimedia artist Rimas Sakalauskas will present Cosmos Vilnius - an installation depicting an interstellar wormhole with the idea of relocating the capital to the moon. In total, more than 20 art collectives will display their work during the event.
“Light festival is a unique expression of cultural diversity,” said Paulius Jurgutis, director of the Vilnius Cultural Center which oversees the festival. “It represents ideas, exceptional projects, and art innovations by global artists. At the same time, the festival encourages international exchange of culture and dialogue.”
The festival will begin on January 25 - the capital’s birthday - and will run through to January 28.
