Six Flags New Orleans in Louisiana, US, is set to be redeveloped into an entertainment complex featuring a waterpark and family entertainment centre.
The long-abandoned theme park was forced to close in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina caused significant damage from severe flooding. In the years since there have been several failed attempts to redevelop the site. Now, however, city officials have approved plans to transform the park into an entertainment destination.
Called Bayou Phoenix, the development will include an indoor/outdoor water park, a hotel, family entertainment centre, film studio, several food and beverage outlets, retail venues, a sports complex, a golf course and residences.
“The vision itself is really compelling and I’m excited for the community to experience several elements of what they producing,” said Jeff Schwartz, director of economic development at the City of New Orleans.
