The RAAPA Expo will go ahead as scheduled despite the difficulties being caused for people and businesses in Russia following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine

The Russian Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (RAAPA) has confirmed that its annual Expo will go ahead as planned next month despite Vladimir Putin’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Russian people and businesses have been hit hard by an unprecedented array of economic and other sanctions - imposed by the US, Canada, Europe, and the UK, as well as Japan, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand - in an effort to counter the Ukraine invasion.
Targeting its finance, energy and military-industrial sectors, as well as individuals and sporting events, the sanctions are far-reaching, with a number of Russian banks cut out of the Swift global payment system and Russian airlines and private jets banned from UK and EU airspace. Russia’s airline Aeroflot has said it will cancel all flights to European destinations, while multiple European airlines have said they are halting routes to Russia.
Set to take place in Moscow from March 16 to March 18, RAAPA Expo is Russia’s largest amusement industry event.
Entering its 24th edition, this year’s event is set to feature more than 100 exhibiting companies, some of which are based in the UK, Canada, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Taiwan and others who have levied sanctions against Russia. This will not affect attendance at the show, however, with foreign companies set to be “represented by Russian offices”.
“The situation in Moscow is stable and the exhibition will be held as scheduled,” a RAAPA spokesperson told Planet Attractions.
“Visitors are welcome from all over Russia. As for the previous two years, no foreign visitors could come because of the epidemiological situation but the show was still very successfully held. We strongly believe that the same situation will be this year.”
Attendees can expect to see all areas of the attractions industry covered, with more than 4,000 people expected to attend.
This year’s event sees representatives from the country’s regions and city’s administrations, industry figures from theme parks, waterparks, FECs, resorts, leisure enterprises, as well as businessmen and other parties of concern invited to attend.
The show will also include the Golden Pony Awards, which recognise achievements and excellence within the attractions industry.
