Shanghai Wintastar, billed the world’s biggest indoor ski attraction, is on track for its 2022 launch after reaching a construction milestone.

The newly topped out project features a 90,000sq m (967,000sq ft) six-storey indoor ski palace with detailed Alpine theming. Ice rinks and more than 20 snow play attractions will provide entertainment for non-skiers, as well as a future billing of winter sports events, theatre, ice sculpture, concerts and a variety of food and beverage options.

Wintastar, located in the Lingang New City district in the Shanghai suburbs, is close to the Disney resort, Haichang Ocean Park and the newly-opened Shanghai Planetarium.

Adjacent to the ski attraction, a sprawling waterpark will add another gate to the complex. The 26,800sq m (288,000sq ft) two-storey waterpark is inspired by a Viking theme and will feature indoor and outdoor areas, as well as a beach club and infinity pool.

Completing the project are four themed hotels, including a twin-tower hotel with 270 rooms. The hotels are currently under construction and set to open in late 2022. The entire construction site covers a total area of 227,000sq m (56 acres).
