Sesame Place San Diego, the newest addition to the Sesame Place portfolio, will open it doors to the public on March 26.

Operated by Seaworld Entertainment, the park, a Certified Autism Centre (CAC), will be the second Sesame Place park to open in the US following its location in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which first opened in 1980.

Occupying 17-acres, guests will experience Sesame Street-themed rides and attractions, including a child-friendly rollercoaster and one of Southern California’s largest wave pools.

The park’s signature location will be an interactive Sesame Street Neighbourhood. Featuring the iconic 123 Sesame Street stoop - the IP’s famous address which is home to the likes of Big Bird, Elmo, Bert & Ernie and Grover - the attraction will also feature the interactive Elmo’s Window, the Sunny Day Carousel, the Sesame Street Apartment intercom and a digital game that uses motion-sensor technology called Bike Shop Tricycle Challenge.

Rides include the family friendly Super Grover’s Box Car Derby rollercoaster, which features mini-dives, turns and hills. Elmo’s Rockin’ Rockets and Cookie Climb also feature as attractions, while other experiences include a musical playground, character shows and meet-ups, photo opportunities and parades.

A number of water rides and attractions are featured in the park, including Snuffy’s Spaghetti Slides, Bert’s Topsy Turvy Tunnels, Big Bird’s Rambling River and Oscar’s Rotten Rafts, as well as The Count’s Splash Castle, and Big Bird’s Beach.

“This is an exciting milestone for our company, as this is the second Sesame Place in the United States and the first new theme park we’ve opened since 2013,” said SeaWorld Entertainment’s CEO, Marc Swanson.

“Having spent part of my career with this company at the original Sesame Place in Pennsylvania and being part of its success, I’m looking forward to continuing the legacy on the West Coast and providing a fun place to visit where life-long memories are created as fans experience what they love about the iconic show in a new way.”

Sesame Workshop CEO, Steve Youngwood, added: “Sesame Place San Diego will offer kids and families an immersive opportunity to play and learn with their favourite furry friends, and continue enriching their experiences with Sesame Street.”

“Since 1980, Sesame Place has been a key part of the Sesame Workshop extended family and mission of helping kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder.”
