The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) has named Matthew Gould its new director general.
Taking up his position starting September 12, Gould was previously CEO of NHSX, where he led the digital transformation of health and care for Britain, including the development of the award-winning NHS Covid Pass technology.
Gould is also the former director general for digital and media at the UK government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and acted as the government’s cyber security director, and Britain’s Ambassador to Israel.
“ZSL is an extraordinary and wonderful organisation, with brilliant and expert staff, committed volunteers, and fabulous supporters,” said Gould.
“My predecessor, Dominic Jermey, and the senior team have done an outstanding job getting the organisation through the pandemic, and into strong shape for the future. My mission will be to give it a laser-like focus on saving species - through its zoos, its advocacy, its science and its conservation projects around the world.”
