WATCH: Meet Convious’s managing director for the UK & Ireland, Andy Povey

Convious showcased its digital engagement platform at this year’s IAAPA Expo Europe. The company’s managing director for the UK & Ireland, Andy Povey, tells Planet Attractions about everything the company has to offer

Convious had one of the most impressive-looking stands at this year’s IAAPA Expo Europe.

Set up with a rocket ship as its centrepiece, the software and app developer travelled to London to demonstrate the full capabilities of its cloud-based eCommerce platform, showcasing the technology by recreating the guest experience before, during and after a visit.

Joining the company earlier this year was industry veteran Andy Povey, who in January became Convious’s new managing director for the UK and Ireland.

Povey has previous experience with both suppliers and operators, including at Merlin Entertainments as business application manager and with Gateway Ticketing as the company’s managing director. For Convious, he leads the company’s growth plan for the UK.

Planet Attractions spoke to Povey at the show to talk about the Expo, Convious’s presence there and everything else the company has to offer the industry.

What does Convious do?

“Convious is a digital engagement platform for visitors to attractions. We work with your visitors before, after and during the visit.”

How did you find this year’s IAAPA Expo Europe?

“This show is in my hometown. I'm from London and it's great being here and seeing loads of people I know for the 30-odd years I've been in the industry.

It's fantastic being part of a brand that's making such a statement as we are with Convious. It's meeting old friends and seeing new faces. It's really the buzz that I get from being here.

In terms of business, there have been some really significant, interesting conversations too.”

What were you showcasing at the event?

“The Convious platform is a brand new way of looking at and selling tickets for attractions. It's written by people who are 20 or 30 years younger than I am. It's written for the digital generation - people who understand the internet natively - so we're bringing that to the attractions industry, really.

Attractions are fantastic at using technology to excite the guests once they're inside the park. They're not so great at the moment at dealing with their guests before they arrive. That's where we sit.”

What’s your favourite attraction?

“This is a really difficult question. I think for me it has to go back to working at an attraction and there's nothing I've done that I've enjoyed more in my career than operating the Vampire ride in Chessington, maybe 25, 30 years ago.”
