Vekoma coasters coming to Warner Bros Movie World’s Wizard of Oz land named as new details revealed

Two Vekoma coasters coming to Warner Bros Movie World’s upcoming Wizard of Oz themed land have been named after new details about the new land were unveiled by the park

Warner Bros Movie World has revealed new details about its new upcoming Wizard of Oz-themed land, including the names of two Vekoma coasters coming to the Australian park.

Replacing the former Arkham Asylum, the new land represents a US$40m (€37m, £31.7m) investment into Warner Bros Movie World, with the two coasters representing the main attraction alongside other themed elements and offerings.

The first coaster, dubbed the Kansas Twister, is a family boomerang racer that will play out over two duelling tracks of 225m (738ft) and 220m (720ft) in length. The ride is the less extreme of the pair and will reach a maximum height of 72ft (22m) in height and a top speed of 36mph (58kmph).

The second ride, called Flight of the Wicked Witch, is a suspended family coaster with a track length of 454m (1,500ft) and a maximum height of 19m (62ft). It will reach speeds of up to 42mph (67kmph).

According to the park, both rides have been designed with high capacity in mind, as well as low height and age restrictions to provide more experiences for families.

Opening later in the year, the wider attraction will feature some iconic elements of the Wizard of Oz IP, including flying monkeys, the Wicked Witch’s castle, the Emerald City, Dorothy’s Kansas farm, and the Yellow Brick Road itself.

“This precinct is going to be like nothing we have ever done at Movie World and we are working closely with our partners at Warner Bros Themed Entertainment to make this one of the most beautifully themed precincts in Australian theme parks,” said Clark Kirby, chief executive of Village Roadshow Theme Parks, operator of Warner Bros Movie World.
