Tom Hanks shares love of space with London’s immersive Moonwalkers experience

Tom Hanks is bringing visitors to the moon and back with a new immersive experience co-written by the actor currently on show at London’s Lightroom

Actor Tom Hanks is the co-writer of a new immersive experience that has just touched down in London, with ‘The Moonwalkers: A Journey With Tom Hanks’ telling the tales of the Apollo missions while also aiming to take STEM education to the next level.

Combining original NASA footage with images from the photography book ‘Apollo Remastered’ by Christopher Riley, The Moonwalkers features interviews between Hanks and astronauts of the current Artemis programme, offering an insight into the return of crewed surface missions to the moon and taking visitors on an immersive voyage to the lunar surface and back.

Lasting around 50 minutes, The Moonwalkers takes place inside King’s Cross’s Lightroom - a space that opened in February last year to invite creative minds to utilise its on-hand technologies for immersive and spectacular experiences. In The Moonwalkers, every surface is projected onto, with immersive sound and lighting within the vast space completing the show. In addition to providing interviews and co-writing the experience with Riley, Hanks also provides the show’s voice over, with his words accompanied by a score from Anne Nikitin, who previously worked on Apple TV’s Hijack.

“This show is about the wonder of the moon and the amazing creatures that have made it possible for members of their race to walk upon it,” said Hanks.

“Men and women are going to go back very soon and isn't it wonderful that we have the curiosity and the drive in order to do something for which there is no rewarded riches, there's no territory that is going to be conquered.

“The only thing that we are going to get is proof that we can not only imagine the impossible, we can make the impossible possible.”

The Moonwalkers: A Journey With Tom Hanks runs until April 24 2024.
