The Week: Toppled statues, imagination-powered learning, Stephen Hawking and Sonic the Hedgehog attractions

A toppled slave-trader statue goes on display, Disney launches a teacher-led education scheme, Hawking’s office to go on display and Sega eyes Sonic theme parks. Welcome to the latest edition of The Week from Planet Attractions

The Week is here for its fifteenth outing and it’s been another busy one at Planet Attractions towers. We’ve got some great stuff coming up and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

On the cover image this week, the statue famously toppled in Bristol last year goes on display, Disney announces plans to launch a new education programme, Stephen Hawking’s entire office has been gifted to the Science Museum Group and we take a deep dive into the world of Sonic the Hedgehog and visitor attractions.

Welcome to your seven day breakdown of everything related to the visitor attractions industry. Welcome to The Week from Planet Attractions.

After successfully making the transition from videogames to the silver screen, recent reports have suggested that Sonic the Hedgehog might be making his way back into the world of visitor attractions on a grand scale.

It’s a big year for speedy blue hedgehog, who in 2021 hit the grand old age of 30. With no major presence in the attractions world for many years, a global return to the world of attractions would be a great way to celebrate the landmark occasion. A report from CA Technology Group indicates that Sega is interested in...keep reading

Recovered by Bristol city council workers four days later, the statue was placed in storage, before undergoing months of preservation work. It now forms part of a temporary display that has...keep reading

Our Quote of The Week comes from Disney’s Maryann Smith, who has spoken about ‘imagination-powered learning’ with the launch of the Disney Imagination Campus education scheme.

Set to debut at both Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California, the Disney Imagination Campus will feature a collection of interactive workshops, performances and special events touching on a variety of subjects.

The programme is a collaborative effort between Disney and teachers. Based on industry trends, the curriculum emphasises key performance criteria and the key skills needed to succeed in business and has been based around four key pillars - performing arts, art and humanities, science and technology, and leadership and innovation.
