Tate names Carmel Allen its new managing director

Carmel Allen has been named the new managing director of Tate

Tate has named Carmel Allen its new managing director with the current Tate Commerce CEO set to take up her new role on September 1.

Leading Tate’s publishing, retail, product development, image and licensing businesses since 2018, Allen has been instrumental in ensuring Tate’s commercial activities match its artistic and social ambitions.

Prior to her time at Tate, Allen was previously creative director for brands such as Heal’s, the Conran Shop and Linley, as well as having worked for major media outlets including Time, Conde Nast, Guardian Media Group and Financial Times.

“I look forward to working with Carmel as we deliver Tate’s vision for the years ahead,” said Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate.

“This is a moment of exciting change for the organisation when we are developing ambitious plans for the future alongside more equitable and sustainable ways of working. I know Carmel has exactly the range of skills and experience we need to make these projects a success.”
