Universal has confirmed the arrival of Super Nintendo World in the US, with the highly-anticipated attraction set to make its North American debut at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2023.

Opened in 2021 to much fanfare, the popular Super Nintendo World attraction is now making its way to the US, with visitors set to be transported into the world of Super Mario and friends.

The land has been conceived by Universal Creative in partnership with Nintendo, with the new themed world to be located in a newly-expanded area of the Hollywood theme park. In addition to rides, the experience will also feature themed shopping and dining.

The Japanese version of Super Nintendo World has two rides – a Mario Kart-themed dark ride featuring augmented reality and a second ride themed around Yoshi.

Universal Studios Japan is also currently working on an expansion to its version of the attraction, with a new area themed around Donkey Kong set to open in 2024. Donkey Kong might not be the only future addition, with Universal and The Pokemon Company announcing a partnership last year.

While Super Nintendo World at Hollywood Studios is a first for the US, it certainly won’t be the last, with plans already in place to add a Super Nintendo World to the operator’s Orlando location as part of the under-construction Epic Universe. A Super Nintendo World is also planned for Universal Studios Singapore.

In recognition of the launch, Universal Studios Hollywood is launching a "takeover" of its Feature Presentation retail store with Super Nintendo World branding. The store, says Universal, will offer apparel themed around Nintendo's Mario and Luigi characters, as well as plush dolls based on characters including Yoshi, Mario, Bowser and Luigi.
