Bahrain is set to welcome a new surf park in 2026, with the upcoming attraction set to be the first in the MENA region to use Wavegarden technology.
Offering “up to 1,000 perfect waves an hour” Wavegarden Cove is a leading wave technology that brings the oceans inland, with over 20 different wave types suitable for all levels from beginners to pro surfers. The attraction will be able to accommodate up to 90 surfers an hour, with the wave-making technology the lowest for energy consumption on the market.
Dubbed Bahrain Surf Park - Club Hawaii Experience, the new attraction will act as a full-on destination, with a surf school, restaurants, beach bars, a skatepark, retail, event spaces, and a panoramic terrace offering park and ocean views.
Backed by Barhanian investment company Edamah and GFH Financial Group, Bahrain Surf Park is expected to be a major tourism draw, pulling in around 300,000 visitors a year and hosting 140,000 surf sessions annually.
There are also plans to host a major international surfing competition at the park in 2026.
“It’s a game-changer not only for Bahrain but for the entire Middle East,” said Wavegarden’s chief commercial director Fernando Odriozola.
“We are very proud to partner with Bahrain Surf Park - Club Hawaii Experience and bring our world-class waves and the incredible sport of surfing to the region.
“Bahrain Surf Park - Club Hawaii Experience is going to be an amazing beach destination for people from the entire area, travelling surfers, and tourists alike.”
The surf park forms part of a wider development along the southwest coast of Bahrain, with the Bilalj Al-Jazayer project set to cover 1.3 million square metres and to be populated with leisure and entertainment destinations, as well as luxury beachfront hotels, residences, and commercial spaces.
“Bahrain Surf Park - Club Hawaii Experience, will be transformational for the tourism and recreation sectors in the kingdom of Bahrain,” said Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa, chairman of Edamah.
“This pioneering project reflects Edamah’s commitment to innovation and our focus on investing in local initiatives that will strengthen the tourism infrastructure in the kingdom, while also enhancing Bahrain’s attractiveness as a tourist destination.”
