Merlin’s upcoming Peppa Pig Theme Park in Texas, has been pushed back, with the park’s opening now set for 2025 instead of 2024.
The second Peppa Pig Theme Park to open in North America, the attraction is being built in North Richland Hills - about 10 miles north of Fort Worth.
Designed specifically for young children, the park will feature multiple rides, interactive attractions, themed playscapes and water play areas.
Among its attractions will be a family coaster, called ‘DaddyPig’s Roller Coaster’. Designed by Zamperla and aimed at the junior thrillseeker, the ride reaches a maximum height of 4.4m (14.5ft) and reaches top speeds of up to 26kmph (16mph).
The park will also feature live daily shows featuring Peppa Pig characters, with the spectacles placed on “instantly recognisable locations” from the popular IP.
“Everyone appreciates the energy surrounding the launch and is focused on ensuring the delivery of exceptional and memorable experiences for valued guests,” a spokesperson said following news of the delay in opening.
According to reports, updates for an opening timetable, as well as tickets and packages, are expected to be released soon.
Merlin has secured a multi-territory licencing agreement with Hasbro over the use of the Peppa Pig brand, with the operator holding rights to build and operate attractions targeted at the pre-school market.
Texas is also currently developing another major theme park development with Universal Kids Resort expected to open in 2026.
Universal’s first-ever park designed specifically for families with young children, the attraction will be centred around a theme park made up of immersive lands themed around a number of Universal IPs. Each land will feature family-friendly attractions, interactive shows, unique merchandise, F&B venues and character meet and greets. The resort will also feature a 300-bedroom hotel themed on IPs featured in the park.
