Red Sea Global, a developer behind a number of major tourism-focused projects in Saudi Arabia, has announced a sponsorship deal with the Saudi Pro League’s Al-Ahli Football Club.

Al-Ahli - which is currently targeting international football superstars such as Edouard Mendy and Roberto Firminho - is one of four clubs recently taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) in an attempt to make the Saudi top-flight among the world’s top ten football leagues.

Red Sea Global, which is also owned by the PIF, is currently developing three major tourism destinations, along with the first phase of the Red Sea International airport.

The three-year sponsorship deal sees Red Sea Global become platinum sponsor of the club's first team, with the company’s logo to be displayed on the players’ kits during all local and global competitions, in addition to other commercial and marketing advantages and privileges.

“This sponsorship stems from the sense of social responsibility adopted by RSG, and our interest in promoting various initiatives in relation to sports,” said Ahmed Ghazi Darwish, chief administrative officer and official spokesperson for Red Sea Global.

“It runs in parallel with our commitment to people and planet, which directly and positively reflects on the quality of life in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and contributes to creating and building a healthy society.”

Red Sea Global is seen as “a cornerstone” of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan, which aims to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil by developing tourism and entertainment destinations. In its role, the company is aiming to transform the nation, creating significant economic opportunities for the people of Saudi Arabia and actively enhancing the kingdom’s environmental and cultural heritage.

In addition to three tourist resorts, the developer is working on a further 13 hotels that will open in 2024. Upon full completion in 2030, the Red Sea destination will comprise 50 resorts with up to 8,000 hotel rooms and an array of visitor attractions across 22 islands and six inland sites. Features include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, F&B and leisure destinations.
