The National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield has been named the UK’s most family-friendly museum.
Selected from 16 shortlisted museums, Kids in Museums awards the prize annually to one museum, gallery, historic home or heritage site in the UK that goes the extra mile to provide a great experience for families.
Family judges were impressed by the hands-on nature of the National Emergency Services Museum, which encourages young people to learn through playing with fire engine rides, driving simulators, dressing up, climbing walls, climb-on vehicles and interactive galleries.
In addition, the Museum of Making in Derby was named Best Medium Museum, while the National Maritime Museum in London picked up the award for Best Large Museum. Experience Barnsley was named Best Accessible Museum and PK Porthcurno in Cornwall was recognised for the Best Family Engagement Team.
