Tomorrowland has teamed up with Plopsaland De Panne to develop a first-of-its-kind rollercoaster celebrating the Belgian electronic music festival.

An investment of €17.5m (US$21.1m, £15.5m), the Mack Rides-designed spinning coaster will “translate the unique atmosphere that prevails in Boom every summer”.

Called ‘The Ride To Happiness by Tomorrowland’, the ride is Europe’s first ‘extreme spinning coaster’ and only the second attraction of its type in the world.

On the ride, visitors will be launched at speeds of up to 90kmph (56mph), with the cars able to rotate freely, changing the ride experience each time.

The ride is almost a kilometre in length, reaching heights of 35m (115ft) at its peak, with five inversions.

Adding to the ride experience, Tomorrowland is developing an exclusive soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer, which will play as riders travel around the track.

“The coaster changes the entire skyline of the park, creating a whole new dimension,” said Steve Van den Kerkhof, Plopsa Group CEO.

“To realise this with Tomorrowland is a dream come true. Through this collaboration, we will both be able to entertain an even larger audience, which will only make us collectively stronger.”

According to a statement from Plopsa Group, the collaboration with Tomorrowland is the first step into investing in various theme park projects across Europe.
