A new indoor rollercoaster is to open at the Silver Dollar City amusement park in Missouri, US, in spring 2024.

Called Fire in the Hole, the new ride is an updated version of the park’s original Fire in the Hole rollercoaster, which opened at Silver Dollar City in the seventies.

Housed inside a purpose-built, five-storey structure in Silver Dollar City’s Fire District area, the new ride will send riders down a 1,512ft (460m) track, offering three drops and a splash landing, at speeds of 26mph (42kmph).

It will also feature a custom soundtrack, while the ride vehicles will be equipped with onboard audio, show lighting and enhanced special effects.

Fire in the Hole is the result of a US$30m (€28m, £24m) investment and will be the Midwest’s largest indoor coaster. It is being manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, the firm behind the recently opened Wildcat’s Revenge at Pennsylvania’s Hersheypark.

“Signifiying our biggest investment in a single attraction, Fire in the Hole continues Silver Dollar City’s strategic, multi-phased growth plan offering families opportunities to play and stay together in the heart of the Ozarks,” said Brad Thomas, president of the Silver Dollar City Company.

“As the district’s anchor attraction, it will be a favourite rite of passage for families where one generation introduces the next generation to this adventure.
