Disneyland is celebrating 100 years of Disney with the introduction of several new attractions and experiences headlined by the California theme park’s own version of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

Housed inside the El CapiToon Theater in Mickey’s Toontown, the groundbreaking dark ride, which first opened at Disney World in 2020, takes riders on an adventure through a cartoon world with Mickey, Minnie and Goofy.

The ride is just one of several attractions and experiences opening at the park in 2023 as part of Disney100 - the year-long celebration of the company’s centenary.

While all Disney parks will be celebrating the occasion, Disneyland - the operator’s oldest park - will be at the heart of the celebrations, offering new entertainment, experiences, attractions, décor and speciality food items.

These include ‘World of Color - ONE’ - a new nighttime spectacular celebrating Walt Disney’s storytelling legacy. The show, which launched on January 27, is the first Disneyland production to include characters, music and moments from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and The Avengers, as well as an original song called ‘Start a Wave’. Guests can access viewing areas and join a virtual queue for the spectacle via the free-to-use Disneyland app.

Also new to the park is ‘Wondrous Journeys’ - a second nighttime show that pays homage to every film produced by the Walt Disney Animation Studio over the past century. ‘Filled with artistry, music, storytelling and heart’, Wondrous Journeys’ utilises the park’s state-of-the-art projection effects to transform Main Street USA and the Sleeping Beauty Castle into the façade of the It’s A Small World attraction, while Rivers of America is turned into an artist’s canvas. Select showings will also include a fireworks display.

A new exhibition dedicated to Walt Disney’s early visions for Disneyland is also included. Called ‘Disney 100 Years of Wonder’, the exhibition explores the studio’s films that inspired the first attractions at the park, with exhibits including original artwork created by original Disney animators for early films, as well as attraction concept art, an animator’s desk and a model of a multi-plane camera.

March 8 will also see the reopening of Mickey’s Toontown, with the revamped land featuring several new interactive play activities, including CenToonial Park, Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard and Donald Duck’s Pond. These new attractions will be accompanied by classics such as Mickey’s House, Minnie’s House and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin.

The celebrations are completed with a series of speciality menu items, as well as platinum-infused décor, themed character costumes and Disney100-themed merchandise.

“For generations, families and fans around the world have made Disney a part of their lives,” said Disneyland president Ken Potrock. “This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy all-new experiences with beloved Disney characters, our caring cast and our amazing storytelling throughout the year.”
