Meow Wolf CEO Jose Tolosa has announced that he is to step down at the end of April, with former Disney executive and board member Rebecca Campbell taking on the role of interim CEO from May 1.
Since joining Meow Wolf in 2021, Tolosa has led the company through a period of growth and evolution, overseeing the opening of two immersive exhibitions in Texas, US, as well as securing locations in Los Angeles and New York for future attractions.
In addition, Tolosa oversaw the launch of the Meow Wolf app, enhancing guest engagement with a new digital overlay, as well as formalised Meow Wolf’s business operations.
Tolosa also assisted with the recruitment of the executive team and implemented several employee schemes, including a bonus structure and performance reviews.
“Leading Meow Wolf through this phase of transformation has been the greatest honour of my professional life,” said Tolosa.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together, and I’m confident the company is poised for an even more magical and mind-expanding future.
“With a strong foundation now in place, I’m proud to pass the baton and excited for what’s next – for Meow Wolf and for me.”
Campbell replaces Tolosa on May 1, and will act as interim CEO while Meow Wolf conducts an external search for a permanent replacement. Tolosa will remain with the company until the end of May to assist with the transition.
Campbell joined Meow Wolf in January 2024 after more than 25 years at The Walt Disney Company.
During her time at Disney, she held several leadership positions including chairman of international content and operations, president of the Disneyland Resort in California, US, and president of the Walt Disney Company in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“Meow Wolf’s bold creativity and community spirit are what drew me in from the start. I’m honoured to support the team through this transition and excited to help build on the incredible foundation already in place,” she said.
