The Mattel Adventure Park in Arizona, US, will open to the public in 2024, Mattel has confirmed.

Construction is currently underway on the new theme park, located in Glendale, Arizona, which, once complete, will be a year-round destination dedicated to Mattel’s beloved IP.

Spanning 392,040sq ft (36,422sq m), the park will offer several rides and attractions themed around IP such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, Thomas & Friends and Masters of the Universe.

Attractions will include a life-sized Barbie Beach House offering a trio of experiences including a flying theatre attraction that will take riders on a journey from the depths of the ocean to outer space and the Dream Closet Experience, which will bring the iconic doll to life through state-of-the-art hologram technology. The Barbie Rooftop eatery completes the line-up, offering panoramic views of the park, as well as pink beverages and sweet and savoury snacks.

The park will also feature two Hot Wheels rollercoasters – Hot Wheels Twin Mill Racer and Hot Wheels Bone Shaker: The Ultimate Ride. Twin Mill Racer will offer two corkscrews and a double loop, while Bone Shaker will stand 84ft (26m) and will feature the toy car’s hot rod skull design.

Meanwhile, a third Hot Wheels attraction, a 4D motion attraction called Hot Wheels Unleashed 4D, puts guests behind the wheel of a custom Hot Wheels car.

It will also feature Thomas & Friends: World of Sodor, an indoor play area with seven family-friendly rides and attractions, including the Thomas Adventure Train: Treasure Hunt ride.

Other experiences will include a 4,500sq ft (418sq m) laser tag arena, themed to look like Castle Grayskull from Masters of the Universe, an immersive nine-hole mini golf course inspired by Pictionary and Magic 8 Ball and a custom Uno-themed outdoor play structure.

Mattel Adventure Park is the result of a collaboration between Mattel and specialist IP-driven, location-based entertainment resort developer Epic Resort Destinations.

“Mattel Adventure Park is an amazing opportunity to bring our beloved brands to life,” said Julie Freeland, Mattel’s senior director of global location-based entertainment (LBE).

“Construction is underway and substantial progress has been made on what will give fans of all ages a day of thrills and nostalgia. We’re especially excited for families to experience the Hot Wheels Bon Shaker rollercoaster – a dream come true for any Hot Wheels fan.”

Mark Cornell, president of Epic Resort Destinations, added: “Our attractions development team is redefining the entertainment channel by bringing Mattel’s powerhouse, evergreen brands to life like never before.

“Watching the excitement build as these mega attractions are being installed in Glendale has been tremendous, and we promise, you’ve never seen a park quite like this one.”
