A light show celebrating 150-years of golf history debuted at The R&A World Golf Museum in St Andrews, Scotland, earlier this week.
Developed by experiential design firm Mather & Co, the R&A Celebration of Light Show is a ten-minute spectacle that takes users through the history of golf’s oldest championship, The Open, in honour of its 150th-anniversary in July.
The show features state-of-the-art motion graphics projection mapped onto one of the most iconic buildings in golf history - the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse, set to a scored soundtrack and narration by Scottish actor Gerard Butler.
Mather & Co, which previously worked on the museum’s rebrand and redevelopment, worked alongside The R&A ‘s production team, as well as Doubletake Productions projection team and 3D animation firm Nymbl.
“The R&A Celebration of Light was a spectacular way to continue our countdown to The 150th Open at St Andrews,” said The R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers.
“You felt a real sense of excitement among the spectators who attended on the evening as we enjoyed reliving the iconic moments which have made this great Championship so revered by millions of fans around the world.
“The 150th Open is going to be a momentous occasion for golf and we look forward with great anticipation to seeing the world’s best men’s golfers create more history when they compete for the Claret Jug over the Old Course in just over three months’ time,” Slumbers added.
