Jordan’s Department of Antiquities (DOA), part of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, has been leading efforts to preserve the country’s heritage sites.

Tourism is a key driver of Jordan’s GDP, as a result, the DOA has launched several campaigns and initiatives to raise awareness and encourage communities to be active participants in conserving the country’s heritage.

“With tourism being a significant contributor to Jordan’s GDP, these historical sites act as magnets, attracting visitors from around the world. Therefore, it is essential to preserve and maintain these sites, not only for their historical significance but also as a means to sustain and improve tourism revenue,” economist Wajdi Makhamreh told The Jordan Times.
