Le Pal’s €11m Fjord Explorer opens to the public alongside new themed neighbourhood

French theme park and zoo Le Pal is celebrating the launch of Fjord Explorer - its brand new Water Coaster ride from Mack Rides and BoldMove

French zoo and theme park Le Pal is celebrating the launch of its latest attraction, with Fjord Explorer the centrepiece of its new Scandinavian neighbourhood area.

A Mack Rides-designed Water Coaster, the €11m (US$12.1m, £9.4m) investment reaches a maximum height of 30m (98ft) and speeds of up to 76kmph (47mph), with a 20m (66ft) splashdown as the ride’s main feature.

“In summer, when it's hot, people like water. They also like how the park is developing into its natural surroundings,” said Arnaud Bennet, CEO of Le Pal, speaking to Planet Attractions.

“We thought a water coaster would be a good mix between rollercoaster and water ride. You get the best of both worlds with the sensation of the coaster and the fun of the big splash.

“We decided to do it with a themed area because that means we can integrate the attraction with its natural surroundings.”

Working alongside Mack, BoldMove sets the scene for the attraction. Designing and creating the Scandinavian-themed queue line, BoldMove provided all 3D concepts, schematic and detailed designs, detailing every corner and all specific props. Additionally, the BoldMove team orchestrated all AV and developed the media content for the reception area and the control room. According to BoldMove, its team developed a story to be explored by the guests rather than imposing something on them. The concept, says the company, allows for a fun experience throughout the entire queue line and is independent of waiting times.

The wider Scandinavian neighbourhood represents a significant investment by the park. Sitting on the edge of a lake that houses the new ride, the area features colourful houses with green roofs. The land also offers retail and dining options, including a new snack bar.
