Design firm Mather & Co has revealed that it’s working on the redevelopment of Ipswich Museum in Ipswich, UK, following a £4.3m (US$5.8m, €5.15m) grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Mather will be responsible for designing nine galleries, a new café, reception, and retail areas - this project is a full museum redevelopment of the original 19th-century museum building.

“We want to start a fresh conversation about the collections held at the museum – whilst gathering new stories that accurately represent the Ipswich community, heritage and communities and heritage of those the collections are related to,” said Sarah Clarke, managing director at Mather.

The museum, which is home to an extensive range of collections from natural science to Egyptology, social history to world cultures, is expected to complete its redevelopment by Q2 2025.
