A new experience themed around the Avatar film franchise is set to open at Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay nature park later this year.

An immersive walkthrough attraction, Avatar: The Experience will be housed inside the Cloud Forest - a 10,000sq m (109,000sq ft) greenhouse that mimics the climate found in tropical mountain regions and features a 42m (138ft) Cloud Mountain and the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

The experience will make use of the Gardens by the Bay setting to transport guests to the alien world of Pandora, where they will come face-to-face with the Na’vi - Pandora’s indigenous people - as well as a range of bioluminescent environments and mystical flora and fauna.

While an opening date for the experience has yet to be confirmed it’s believed that it will coincide with that of Avatar 2, the first of four planned film sequels, which comes out December 2022. The experience was developed by experiential design firm Cityneon in partnership with Disney Location-Based Experiences and Lightstorm Entertainment.

“The opening of Avatar: The Experience in Singapore is a unique opportunity to continue expanding the global reach and impact of Avatar, the highest-grossing film of all time,” said Lightstorm Entertainment’s president of Franchise Development, Kathy Franklin.

“As the first of our four Avatar sequels comes to theaters this December, this is the perfect time - and the perfect place - to explore and celebrate the wonders of Pandora in an all-new way.”

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2022, Gardens by the Bay has welcomed more than 80 million visitors since opening. The entire site spans more than 250 acres (101 hectares) and sits adjacent to Singapore’s Marina Reservoir. The site was part of the nation's plans to transform its "Garden City" to a "City in a Garden", with the aim of raising the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city.

“Many visitors associate the aesthetic of Gardens by the Bay with the stunning environments from the film Avatar,” said Felix Loh, CEO of Gardens by the Bay.

“Even more remarkable is the shared appreciation for the natural world that surrounds us. This collaborative opportunity serves as a one-of-a-kind event and adds to the significance of our tenth-anniversary celebrations.”
