The IAAPA Expo Europe is heading to Barcelona, Spain, for its first in-person event in more than a year.

Running from September 27 until September 30, the four-day event will be held at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via exhibition centre in Barcelona’s business district and will feature education sessions, networking opportunities and a tradeshow.

The theme for this year’s expo is recovery, with conference programming designed to help attendees and their businesses navigate the process of reopening in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Attendees can learn about topics as diverse as trends, innovation, accommodation, operations, human resources, marketing and food and beverage.

Former Ted Talker and tourism thought leader Doug Lansky will open the conference with a speech on how the attractions can futureproof their businesses.

Opening on September 28, this year’s tradeshow will be held across two exhibition halls and will host more than 460 exhibitors showcasing new products.

Several networking opportunities will also be on offer with special events held at Barcelona attractions, such as PortAventura and Tibidabo amusement park.

“This past year has been unlike any other our industry has encountered,” said IAAPA president and CEO, Hal McEvoy.

“Members have been looking to us to help them push forward so guests around the world can safely return to the fun we are known for. The best way we can do this is by bringing the industry together for our global Expos.

“No matter what stage or re-opening, re-emerging or recovery members are in, they will be able to find inspiration, solutions and new connections in Barcelona.”

Health and safety

IAPPA has been working with Fira Barcelona Gran Via to ensure that the event is safe for its exhibitors and attendees.

Jakob Wahl, executive director and VP of IAAPA EMEA, said: “As we plan for IAAPA Expo Europe, the health and safety of our exhibitors, attendees and team remain at the forefront of all that we do.”

“The Fira Barcelona Gran Via is a great partner and they’re working with us to ensure we have the right safety measures in place that meet current health guidelines.”

“We’re so looking forward to bringing industry professionals to Barcelona and sharing some of the area’s famous destinations,” he added.

Registration for the event is open now.
